Cutting-edge research suggests that organizations can no longer afford anything less than their employees' Best Self in the workplace. Why? We humans have four basic human needs: Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual.
  • Physical: safety, job security
  • Intellectual: job satisfaction, and acknowledgment
  • Emotional: self-esteem, desire for affiliation
  • Spiritual: desire to make a difference

In the workplace, we've tended to focus on only the first two needs because up till now those have been the easiest to quantify. In effect, however, employees are able to bring only 50% of their Best Selves to their jobs.
